In which and a young American journalist journeys to Phnom Penh in search of fame, fortune and a heaping pile of fried Tarantula.

  • We drove from San Francisco to Boston through Boulder, Mermet Springs, Bloomington and Chatham. We spent around 45 hours on the road, two hours underwater and probably a half an hour by the side of the road in Colorado and Wyoming splashing antifreeze on the windshield. The Jeep survived; George, who traveled in a wire mesh trashcan, tweeted about once every hundred miles.
San Francisco looked lovely in the rear view mirror. I can’t wait to be back. Driving east is like moving in reverse. The big trip west—Logan, LAX, Taipei, Phnom Penh—will start December 2nd.
